Why save energy?
Just over a quarter of the UK's carbon dioxide emissions every year originate from the energy we use to heat and light our homes and to run an increasing number of household appliances with.
What you can do
Turn off lights and appliances when not in use (including the computer).
Try not to over-heat your home. A 1°C reduction in temperature could reduce your fuel bill by up to 10%.
Reduce the room temperature by turning the heating down, not by opening windows.
Take showers instead of baths, they use much less energy.
Do not overfill your kettle - boil only the amount you need.
Defrost your freezer regularly.
Use the washing machine with a full load.
